Bayern München - 1899 Hoffenheim

The last match of Round 19 is a special one above all the big class difference between both sides makes this encounter very interesting. Leader Bayern Munich is looking for their 10. home win while 1899 Hoffenheim is getting more and more in trouble. They are already 4 Points behind the safe zone and losing more and more to the teams above. In this case they are almost in a situation where they must win otherwise they are close to get relegated this Season.

League Leader Bayern Munich is not only one step ahead of the other teams in the league, no they are already two or three. They have a really great squad and if they miss one or two it is not necessary for them as they have a lot in back who has almost the same class. The squad is very well balanced and all positions are double manned. Therefore Coach Guardiola can choose from a lot and he has the skills to find the right system and tactical instruction for his team to overcome every opponent so far. Against bottom side Hoffenheim he must expect a very deep defending opponent again. If they can score an early one it would be very helpful for their game but if not they are always able to score 3-4 goals as they can not be controlled or defend all the game.

The injury from Boateng in central back is a big blow for the team from Bayern but with Martinez they should have the right replacement for the upcoming matches. Also Robben has not reached his top level and should be on bench again while Coman takes his place. He showed a really great performance in Hamburg and therefore should start. Costa is back after a long absent in December and can help to bring the offensive play forward today too. They have still some unavailable players with Ribery, Götze, Benatia and Rafinha but the starting lineup and the bench should be strong enough anyway.

The situation is getting very bad in Hoffenheim as they have already 5 Points to place 16. and 7 to the safe zone. This is almost a must to get Points but a draw is to less if they want not to lose more ground to the teams above. They are at the bottom with Hannover 96 and both teams look like relegation candidates this Season. After they have sold their best offensive player Firmino to Liverpool in the summer they have not the offensive power and class in their play so far. This player was the fix point of their play and with his actions and idea he was a guarantee for Points for 1899 Hoffenheim. But he is not available anymore and they must try to find the right balance and players for the offensive play. It is very hard as most of the players are very young and have a lot ups and downs at this age. To begin under Gisdol they tried with Zuber a guy behind the attackers but he disappointed. Under new Coach Stevens Amiri was the man behind but he got injured and in the first match against Leverkusen Stevens gave Hamad his trust who scored immediately but showed also that he has a lot of improvements. For this reason they are searching for an experienced player for this position but if they buy one they stopped the process from the youngsters in their career. All of them has to learn a lot but at the moment it is not the time, they need players which can walk on and give the team stability and hope that they can avoid relegation as some years ago. 
Some problems arrived additional in central midfield because with Schwegler and Polanski are two experienced players out for today. Also Stobl was ill and returned into training on thursday but it is not sure if he is at 100%. In offensive they miss with Elyounoussi also a very quick guy. Of course Stevens has some options with Bicakcic for Schär in central back, Amiri for Hamad in central midfield also Zuber and Kuranyi are back in the squad. 

The leader Bayern Munich against bottom team Hoffenheim should be a clear thing above all in Munich in their arena where they always showed great matches and scored a lot. I can not see any other outcome as the win from Bayern and of course with at least a margin of 3 goals of more. The pressure will be very high all the match and Hoffenheim can not hold all away above all they are getting more and more tired and this produce a lot of mistakes too. The defensive play is not the best anyway from 1899 and they conceded always and their offensive play is harmless as mentioned above. Bayern has all the weapons they need to win this match comfortable. Let's roll .....

FSV Mainz 05 - Bor. M'Gladbach

It was not so much what Mainz showed against Ingolstadt. They were not able to put some pressure on Ingolstadt all the game and additional had no real idea how to overcome this defensive minded team. In first game they was absolutely dominated from Ingolstadt and the 0-1 lose was deserved, this time they were not dominated but at least controlled from Ingolstadt and lost again 0-1 due to a doubtful penalty. Overall they should weak up and looking forward to the next matches but they have to invest much more to get something out of the games. Maybe this time it can be a bit better because with Gladbach they get an active team who wants to play offensive and not to sit back and wait what the opponent is doing and defending only. In this case they get more space for their offensive play and their fast and quick players.

Coach Schmitt can make a few changes compared to the game in Ingolstadt. He has a lot to choose form as he has almost all players ready and this gave him a lot of options. In offensive should Muto return into the attack as they were really harmless without him last match. Also the wings need more power what let some players hope to start. 

After a great run under Schubert with only 1 defeat since he took over from Favre they got the 2nd lose which was absolutely deserved. Dortmund was dominating the game really well and if they have used all their good opportunities the win should have been much higher. Gladbach was suffering a bit and with some key players absent they were not able to be as dominant in midfield as they can. They gave the whole midfield away and this was maybe key, also their defensive had a lot of problems with the fast play from Dortmund. With a very young central back not a big surprise anyway. Despite this lose they have still a lot of quality in their rows but Coach Schubert must find the right mix and balance for the upcoming matches. The fight for an international spot is key for Gladbach and their biggest aim this Season, of course.

Normally Coach Schubert has a lot to choose from but this time he has some problems to get a good starting eleven on the pitch. With Dominguez and Jantschke he miss two starters for the defensive line, in central midfield Xhaka suspended, on the offensive wing Herrmann and Hahn and additional Schulz who is new from Hertha BSC but has not so many minutes this Season. The next big problem is Dahoud who face a hand injury and can not play maybe what some media said. This is a big blow as with him the whole central midfield is out (Xhaka and Dahoud). In this case it would be interesting what Schubert field here, also in central back who get his trust there. In offensive some options are possible because with Hofmann he has a good player in the back.

Eintracht Frankfurt - VfL Wolfsburg

Very interesting game between Eintracht Frankfurt who is in relegation trouble and VfL Wolfsburg who is looking for an international spot again. With a win Frankfurt can make a big step forward and minimize the pressure in the upcoming weeks a bit while Wolfsburg stands already under pressure if they do not want to lose more space to the top 4. This is a must win game for them otherwise they face some difficult weeks.

The situation was getting very worse at the end of the year for Frankfurt. They tried to solve some of the problems with new signings like Huszti, Ayhan and Fabian. It looks like that two of the guys are already in starting lineup for the game against Wolfsburg. Coach Veh was trying to find the best balance and system for his team to be prepared for the relegation battle where Eintracht is involved now. They need more compactness at to the end of last year and this is very important for Coach Veh now. The offensive power should be there with players like Huszti, Fabian, Meier, Stendera. Also Aigner can be an option there but should start from bench according to last test performances. With Zambrano back in squad he can start as central back again and allow Veh to move Russ forward into the midfield while Hasebe can play on the back wing. This should help the team to get more compactness. On what system Veh count is a little bit open but it can be 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2. Although they have still some players injured they get a very good starting eleven on the pitch and with Aigner as joker they have one weapon on bench who can bring some power in second half with his quickness.

The preparation in Portugal was very good for Wolfsburg and they had best conditions there. According to their weak offensive play to the end of last year Coach Hecking was trying to bring some new fire in their offensive part. He wants to see his team to press much higher now and bring the opponent more and more in danger but if they stand much higher it can be that they concede some goals more. This knows Hecking of course but he wants to be more active with his team now and not so sit back and wait what the opponent is doing. His aim is to reach one of the first four places and for this they are working very hard. Despite their good conditions in Portugal they had some problems too with ill or injured players like keeper Benaglio who could play only in one friendly. Also in midfield they have with Arnold and Gustavo two guys doubtful. If both must pass it is very open who plays beside Guilavogui. It looks like that Träsch has to move from the wing into the middle. This is not the best solution as he did a great job on the back wing position. In attack they have also problems with the huge injury from top striker Dost because Bendtner has not the form at the moment to replace him. In this case Hecking plans with Schürrle as attacker maybe. All three Kruse, Draxler and Schürrle showed great form and they should bring Wolfsburg on track for the second half of the Season.

Of course this is a very tricky one but with Wolfsburg having problems in all their parts of the team it can be the chance for Frankfurt to get a result here. Above all the miss from key striker Dost can be a problem because they have not real replacement for him at the moment. An additional factor can be the home crowd for Frankfurt too and Wolfsburg celebrated only 1 away win this Season against newcomer Darmstadt. So we trust and believe in Eintracht today.

Bor. M'Gladbach - Borussia Dortmund

The top match of Round 18 takes place in Borussia Park between Borussia M’Gladbach and Borussia Dortmund. An absolutely top clash between these two teams where a lot of goals should be delivered. In this case it can be a very entertaining game, of course. But after the winter break it is not sure in what condition both are already. Absolutely sure is that Gladbach wants revenge for the 0-4 in first game. This time they should be much better prepared and in shape as well as in this match. Also at home they are unbeaten in 6 matches against Dortmund and have a good record too.

After an awful begin of the Season and 5 defeats in a row Coach Favre left the club and Schubert took over, with him they had an incredible run and could close the gap to the international places. They are looking forward to continue the run where they lost only 1 time with Schubert and get an international spot in the end of the Season. It should be possible because the team looked very balanced and they strength it with Hofmann from Dortmund and Hinteregger from RB Salzburg additional. It was important to do this transfers according to their big injury list with a lot of missing, additional to this list (Dominguez, Hahn, Herrmann, Jantschke and Schulz) they have 1 suspended players too. This player is key midfield and captain Xhaka. He was replaced well in last game but against Dortmund it can be much more different to find the right mix for Schubert. Absolutely open is if new signing Hofmann starts already against his old team mates or if he is on bench first while Hinteregger is for sure not an option for the starting lineup because of condition problems.

Dortmund wants to be Bayern's biggest rival but for this they have to win matches otherwise they lose more and more space to the leader. They must hope that Bayern Munich has the same weak second half what they had the last two years under Guardiola. Of course they were strong but lost some Points. All in Dortmund hopes that they can close the gap to the leader but for this they have to play a really strong second half and lose not much Points. Therefore they have to continue the run they started in preparation where they won all their friendly matches. They showed very good early form and this can be key to start well into 2016. Coach Tuchel can count on his strongest lineup for this encounter. Of course they miss some with Bender, Sahin, Schmelzer and Durm. Also with Kagawa and Ramos missed two players some training sessions this week due to illness. Both are not an option for the starting lineup because for Kagawa plays Castro who had a great preparation so far. The second one Ramas is only a bench player anyway and not so important at all. All the other top weapons are ready for Dortmund.

Hamburger SV - Bayern München

This is the opener for the second half of the Season in Germany between Hamburger SV and Bayern Munich. Both sides with different aims but nevertheless it could be an interesting and exciting one. In their own stadium Hamburg managed some surprises in recent years although they are far away from the class Bayern Munich’s or Dortmund. It is always difficult to play there for these teams but if all go the normal way they should have no chance anyway. This is not the opponent they must collect Points, it is more an additional gift if.

The start into the new year was not as expected for Hamburg. It was almost seen to the end of last year that they have some problems with the team, also result showed this too. This continues this year and their preparation for this part of the Season was not so well. A lot of problems with their training sessions according to not available players due to injury or illness. In every Session Coach Labbadia has missed at least 3 up to 8 players, what makes it not possible to train well. In all parts of the team they miss players above all in attack Lasogga is a big miss with his shoulder injury and if he can not start against Bayern it is terrible for HSV. It is also very open if Coach Labbadia risk some with his doubtful players like Lasogga or Djourou because they are needed in the upcoming matches. Manager Beiersdorfer is searching for a good and well replacement but with the financial problems they can not make big steps. He mentioned additional that he expect a really hard second half and he warned already to invest all possible energy to bring this Season to a good end. The friendlies said not all but it was a really sign with losing all against Young Boys Bern 1-2, RW Erfurt 1-2 and Ajax Amsterdam 1-3. According to the actual form and squad they have to improve a lot if they do not want to start very bad and getting more and more problems. Of course they are still 7 Points ahead of the red zone but this can be gone fast.

The league leader was in Qatar for preparation to second half of the Season. They want to win all competition because it is the last half year with Guardiola on the sideline as Coach. He left the club after this Season and the new man for Season 16/17 is Carlo Ancelotti. Nevertheless some time to go with Pep and also a lot of work to do. They were preparing some other options for the upcoming matches if in league, Cup or CL. Some of the players are back like Douglas Costa, Robben and Thiago who all worked hard for their fitness. Some of the guys are not ready and return later in February maybe like Götze, Ribery, Benatia and Bernat. Despite these missing Coach Guardiola can choose from much more as to the end of last year as the top weapon with Costa is back, also important Alaba returns. A lot of options now with Thiago for Vidal or Coman for Robben, last one could not train all Sessions because of some problems but he said that he is ready or Badstuber for Martinez. In all parts of the team they have really good replacements and with the guys above back additional it should be a hard fight for the positions. If they can overcome the opponents so easy as in first half of the Season it must be seen as they had shown some weakness in all their Seasons with Guardiola in second half. The wake up call was already there because the only friendly they played was against 2.BL team KSC and they lost 1-2 with their strongest eleven. They did really hard and played not so fresh and well as in all the games recently. In this game got Rafinha injured and he should be not available for the game against HSV as well.

SC Paderborn - Fortuna Düsseldorf

This is the last match for 2015 when SC Paderborn hosts Fortuna Düsseldorf this Monday evening. According to both teams situations it is a very important and tricky game the west duel. Paderborn sits on 16 Place while Düsseldorf has 3 Points more on their side and is 15. With a win they can go even with Düsseldorf and get a better position after winter break to avoid relegation. Of course this wants Düsseldorf to avoid and they look forward to get at least a Point here. Otherwise they are getting in danger and under more pressure to begin next year.

With only 2 Points out of the last 5 games and the extreme disaster last weekend Coach Effenberg suspended 3 players with Brückner, Saglik and Lakic. According to this step they want to give some note on the team that they have to invest more and also to improve a lot. This means the squad is guilty for their situation at the moment and not the actual Coach. Despite this statement has Effenberg be honest and study his work as well. To begin he brought some fresh motivation with his kind of positive thinking and absolutely winning mentality but this is gone now. Nevertheless he could not bring the team on the next level above all his tactic and style of play remained static.

Of course he has a special view of these things but he said also that his team must deliver now. He wants to see a clear answer from his team today after last weeks 0-4 to Bochum. For this he tries to changes his team at 6 positons. With Hartherz, Quali, Stöger, Kirch, Narey and Proschwitz are all named who starts from beginning on today.

So many changes plans interim Coach Hermann not although he miss some players and has to replace them anyway. With midfield player Koch they have one player out suspended while Bolly has some muscle problems and is not available for today. The next absent player is Sararer who got injured in last trainings session. The good news is the return from central back Haggui after suspension. Additional finds Manager Azzouzi the behavior from some media not correct because they criticized both strikers Ya Konan and Pohjanpalo for their performances this Season so far. They said that they are not good enough for Düsseldorf and have to improve if they want to stay here. But Coach and Manager count and believe in them what is trust enough. 

Despite the harsh 0-3 defeat to Union at home the trend under interim Coach Hermann is very positive and allow them to take courage. The 2-1 in Frankfurt to FSV was the first away win this Season but also one of the best away matches in the past. The team improved more and more if tactical or in style of play, they harmonized more and more together. The hopes are there to get a positive end of 2015. Last time they lost in Paderborn was 5 years ago, 2010 0-3 but almost none actual player stand on the pitch at that time.  

Both teams have to lose a lot here therefore we expect a very careful play from both and it can be a very close one until the end too. Düsseldorf of course will be satisfied with a draw while Paderborn need the win to go even with Fortuna. But they must be ahead of their actions and allow not to much otherwise takes Düsseldorf advantage from the space they get and overcome Paderborn and it would be hard for SCP to come from behind. Paderborn looked totally out of form and we think that Effenberg can not turn things around in one week, we believe in Düsseldorf today.

MSV Duisburg - VfL Bochum

This is an important match above all for the home team, they are at the bottom with only 11 Points and they have to look for a win today if they want to have any chance to avoid relegation after winter break. With a lose and a win from the teams above them the gap open to 8 Points and this is almost impossible to turn this in their favor in 15 games. On the other side Bochum need to win as well to stay in tough with the top because with a lose they will be 6 Points behind 3rd Place and this after such a good start to begin of the Season.

After they fired Lettieri they gave Gruev their trust, he is an unknown Coach for most of the experts but he has showed some good work. The first three matches they were unbeaten under him (1-2-0) but failed in both last games in Leipzig where they looked long as the logical winner but Leipzig had an incredible finish with 3 goals. Last weekend in Kaiserslautern they hold long time a goalless draw but must capitulate in second half. Nevertheless the team is doing a much better job now and they are much more compact, also their offensive actions are also more efficient.
Therefore Coach Gruev plans to start with the same lineup as in the recent matches where they was not without any chance. The only change can be in central back where veteran Bajic returns. Also he mentioned in an interview that he wants to see the fighting spirit from the game against Sandhausen and the creative play from Leipzig. If they are able to find the mix here they are having a real good chance to get the win.

After some bad weeks Bochum shot Paderborn out of their stadium with 4-0 and got some hope back that the team have not lost their strength. Also in Cup they were able to win in Munich 2-0 but against such a harmless opponent every team had won. But win is a win but they need some help from the referee because the second goal was clear hand but it was counted. The salary for the win against 1860 was a big game in the next Cup Round where they face Bayern Munich at home. But before they have to talk and thing about the big game 2016 they have to do the work in league and this is in Duisburg. Coach Verbeek is very pleased that his team manage this match very well.
But he said also that it is not so easy because this is the third match in one week and they had to travel two times as well. Of course it is not far to Duisburg and this can be called a derby but some of the players are really tired after a long Season. Additional they have some doubts in their squad with Perthel and Fabian and also Terodde. Third one is sure out and it is also unsafe if he plays next year for Bochum as he has some offers from 1.Bundesliga.

The bottom team have to be as cool as they can and try to win this one. At home they are much better and they have shown some good games there already. In 9 home matches they were beaten only from Kaiserslautern, FSV Frankfurt and Braunschweig. All the other 6 matches they got Points and it is not far that this happen against weak traveller Bochum again. Above all after this big negative run away from home without a win since 3 matches. Also the tiredness from some player can be there because we have mentioned above that this is their 3 match in one week and at the end the batteries are empty. Therefore MSV can maybe take advantage from it too.

SC Freiburg - 1860 München

An important match for both sides, Freiburg has to win if they do not want to have the pressure immediately after the break because with Nürnberg they have one team in back who is only 2 Points behind now and also they want to close the gap to 3 Points to leader Leipzig again. On the other side 1860 is fighting against relegation and with 14 Points they are 2 Points behind SC Paderborn. With a win they can get some hope back for the new year and also put some pressure on Paderborn for the monday game. Nevertheless more important is that they do not open to lose to much space on other teams above.

In Freiburg all are working very professional and they want the most possible success and this is the return into 1.Bundesliga immediately. They have build a very young and hungry team with a lot of young players. Before they Season they did not know that all is going so well and they have found each other immediately and pay this with great performances back. Nevertheless they want more and this is a big sign for all the other teams because they have done great work on transfer market and signed Havard Nielsen form RB Salzburg for 2016. This is a real great investment and said all about the club. A big surprise and great work from the management. Some of the experts were very surprised because why such an excellent offensive player because the problems are in defensive with 22 goals conceded already.
Against 1860 two defensive specialists returns into starting lineup and should help to avoid more goal against them. With Günter on the wing who replace Föhrenbach and Abrashi in central midfield what give the team more creative options. The other parts maybe remain unchanged because the performance in Nürnberg was very good but they lost really unlucky there.

The start from Möhlmann was good but after some matches 1860 is falling back to old style of play and this is really harmless in front of the goal and in defensive very prone. Also they have no real idea to overcome an opponent or some creative actions and options. The last 3 matches at home were all lost and the players are maybe very happy to play on the road today. Away from home they could convince a bit more recently with losing only 1 of the last 5. But it can be hard work to play against one of the top teams of the league and if they do hard to score again it is almost impossible to get something in Freiburg above all they can not hold the pressure of this great offensive away for 90. minutes.
The tactic should be clear and it is a defensive minded 4-5-1 where Claaßen moves into the starting lineup on the wing. It is not an easy task for them against Freiburg, the first match was lost 0-1 and they are waiting since 13 years for a win against SCF.

The team from "Breisgau" is really strong at home and they love to play in their close and small stadium. The offensive power is incredible and what some of their opponents felt already. If they bring all their power on the pitch they can not be stopped and against a bottom side who has really idea to score it can be only one winner with SCF. Of course against such teams they need some patience but they know what they get today and Coach Streich should warn them and bring them on track with the right tactical advice.

VfB Stuttgart - VfL Wolfsburg

Statistic:

- Stuttgart lost all their last 6 BL games to Wolfsburg.
- Both teams collected only 2 Points from the last 3 BL games (0-2-1).
- Stuttgart has the weakest numbers ever in club history with only 12 Points and -17 goals.
- Wolfsburg won only 1 road game this Season so far.
- They were not able to collect more as 6 Points on the road what is less for a top team.
- Also away from home they are very harmless and scoring only 3 goals in 7 matches.

It was very important for Stuttgart to advance in Cup above all against a lower division team from Braunschweig. Despite the big problems and missed penalty they managed in a very hard fight to win 3-2 after extra time. This cost additional energy and some of their players looked very tired at the end of this game. In this case they have to rest a bit more and hope that they are fresh enough for the last game this year because they need all their power against a very good opponent. 

It is seen that the team is much more compact now and plays a much better defensive style as under former Coach Zorniger. Of course there are always some mistakes in their game but they are far away from such bad play. Interim Coach Kramny has found the right balance after the 1-4 in Dortmund. Against Mainz it was seen that they work better and much better together now. Up front they are very less on options as most of the offensive players are injured. The hopes are on youngster Werner but he is not real attacker but he must play there. If they want to have a chance in this encounter they have to minimize their mistakes and play very compact and allow not much on the other side they must be very clinical in front of the goal. Maybe they get more space against a playing team from Wolfsburg what are their hopes.

The team from VW town wants to be a big rival for Bayern Munich but the situation is getting different after the “VW-Gate“. The sponsoring is more less now and they have to look what they are able to invest and get from Champions League. Therefore no big transfers expected in the future. Additional they are on some downtrend lately. They were not able to win one of the last two and lost some space to the top 2 Bayern and BvB. This is also due to their weak away performances. They were not able to win much, only 1 time against newcomer Darmstadt with a lucky goal from Caligiuri after some help from Darmstadt’s keeper. In all the other road games they had big problems although they have a great squad to choose. Only at home they showed the real strength so far. If they do not want to fall down more they have to find some solutions for the games away.

Hamburger SV - FC Augsburg

It was very close last Season but this one they are doing much better and Coach Labbadia is very pleased with the performances so far. They only what should be improved is their home performance above all they had some problems to play against deep defending teams at home in the past. With their fast wings they need much more space to get them rolling and this is not always the case in home games above all if they have to come from behind or the match is very even. This is the last match before the break but most of the players have slight injuries or plays with injuries like Lasogga did in Wolfsburg last time. It is not the best and he risk a lot but he wants to help the team and bring this Year to a positive end. Despite the upcoming opponent they can get some problems again as Augsburg is a team who defends very well in recent games and showed an uptrend in their form what makes it to a very difficult for HSV. Nevertheless they have a good mood in their squad although the average outcome at home.
Some changes can be made from Labbadia as well as with Hunt is the central midfield player back from injury and he can replace Gregoritsch now, in defensive Djourou has not trained the whole week due to illness but he returns also in central back for Cleber.

To begin of the Season we have mentioned already that this can be a very difficult one for Augsburg as almost all small clubs who managed an international spot had a lot of problems in the upcoming Season. No they were all involved in relegation battle and had a negative finish with relegation. There were teams like Aachen, Mainz, Frankfurt and Freiburg, all can tell their own story. The next team is Augsburg in this category but after having a lot of problems in the first 12 Rounds with only 6 Points they started to turn things around and managed an unbeaten run from 4 games now what allowed them to collect 10 Points out of these matches and put them out of red zone. With 16 Points they can look forward a bit more positive and Coach Weinzierl is very pleased with his team for past matches. Above all the key match in European League against Partizan Belgrad which they had to win with the exactly result 3-1 to advance to next stage gave them an additional boost now.

Of course, one of the key facts is their new strength in defense and also the excellent work against the ball. They are absolutely aggressive and really nasty what makes it very difficult to play against them. Also they conceded only 1 in the last matches and keeper Hitz was 361 minutes without conceding a goal until Kolasinac from Schalke put the ball behind him on Sunday. With all this positive results and issues they had recently they are a much better team now, they have much more self confidence, a better mood and do not so many mistakes as to begin. They have much more trust in their actions and believe on their strength and what this produce is seen on their results lately.

We expect a close match between these two sides what was the case in all their matches against each other. It can be a hard fight till the end to end up this year and go on holidays. Despite the lose in Cup Augsburg is in good shape and should make some trouble for HSV. 

FC Schalke 04 - 1899 Hoffenheim

Normally S04 has a lot of potential but they were not able to bring this on the pitch in the last games. Only against Hannover they were able to show a bit of their strength. It depends all on the youngsters, if they are in game and can bring all their power on the pitch Schalke is doing well but if these guys are not involved in their play it is hard to win matches. Above all both wings Mayer and Sane has a lot of potential and quickness to overcome every defense in this league. To get a bit more power in offensive Coach Breitenreiter is thinking to changes his system to 4-4-2 with Huntelaar and Di Santo up front. Behind them can play Choupo Mouting while the youngsters comes over the wings. In midfield they can count on Geis and Goretzka. First one is key for free kicks and corners and should bring some danger in their play with it anyway. The defensive line with Matip and Höwedes had some problems recently and they can get some with the quick offensive players from Hoffenheim like Volland, Schmid and Amiri are. On the back wing is Caicara ready while Aogo face some problems and must be replaced form Kolasinac again. Overall a strong lineup with a lot of power and potential.

1899 coming to Schalke with the first home win in bag. Ok, it was a narrow 1-0 win with some luck but only the result count and this was in their favor what was important. Of course they want to walk on because they need every Point to get out of the bottom. For this Coach Stevens has of course some tactical surprises but he does not talk about. Therefore we can only think that he allows the same lineup to start again. This means that Polanski is on bench again but he has a change to move into the starting lineup because Schwegler has some problems and is a doubt at the moment. He should face a late test maybe. But also Rudy is an option there and he is the more prepared player for opening the game in midfield. This is not the strength from Polanski as he is more a fighter. Despite the last win it was not all well above all the defensive work was not so good and they showed some weakness there and with a bit of luck from Hannover they should have scored one or two. If they allow again or make some mistakes Schalke are more clinical and use this. Up front they have a lot of good players which can be the difference on a good day. With Schmid, Amiri, Volland, Elyounoussi and also on bench with Vargas, Uth and Szalai.

We see a lot of potential in both offensive lines and goals will come here for sure. We had in all meeting between these two sides goals above all Schalke scored a lot at home against 1899. In 6 of their last 7 they scored at least 2 goals or more and could only kept a clean sheet in 3 of them. Overall it is hard to see both not to score here. If Schalke can take the lead the matches is going in their favor and with Sane they have an excellent counter player who can overcome them and create or score some. Additional could Hoffenheim only keep a clean sheet in 2 of their 8 away games.

Union Berlin - SV Sandhausen

The situation was much different before the Season starts at both clubs. After the Season starts it was again different and all saw that Sandhausen can be one of the surprise teams this Season although they got 3 Points deducted due to license problems. The results were all their way and they was immediately under the top 6 what gave them additional motivation and boost for the upcoming matches. The team from Berlin Union had expected to be under the top 6 this Season but failed so far and according to their bad results they are looking only to avoid relegation or stay away. They want to collect 40 Points as far as they can. The first match between these two sides were an entertaining one with 4-3 where Union looked long time as the logical winner but Sandhausen turned this game around.

Some positive sign was send from the team in the last 6 matches where they lost only one of these. But at home where normally they had their strength in recent Season they do not so well. This is very bad for their great fans which make always great support and atmosphere there. With winning only 1 of the last 9 it is far away from a fortress former years (1-6-2). After winning three month ago to bottom side Duisburg they want to celebrate with their fans a win and a special Christmas atmosphere today.

But for this they have to replace midfield player Kreilach suspended and have with Fürstner and Kessel two players doubtful. Despite this bad news they want to be as positive as they can and try to win this, nevertheless they want to invest all. Fürstner was already out last game in Düsseldorf, Kreilach can be replaced from much more offensive minded Brandy and captain Kessel from Trimmel on the wing while Puncec move into the middle.

Sandhausen played a great Season so far despite their bad results lately. Nevertheless also with a lose in Berlin they can look back very satisfied on their good performances what let them celebrate Christmas and new Year without any problems. But with 3 games without a win and only 1 Point they want to get into the break with a good feeling and therefore with a win.

The squad should be the same as against Braunschweig 0-2 although Kosecki is back from injury but it is to early for him to be in the squad. In this case Thiede and Bieler are the first options on left offensive wing. Some players have slight injuries like Hübner and Paqarada but both should start and forget for the last 90 minutes the pain. Not available is joker Jovanovic who had an op.

This is a match between two sides who have not the best moment lately. Union at home and Sandhausen on the road and they made a lot of mistakes too. The defensive line from Union is always good for goals but up front they have some good and fast players who are inform above all Wood. On the other side Sandhausen loves to play on counter attack and they will get a lot of space today. This matches had goal in all the last games. It was always fun to watch these two sides and we believe that they continue like this.

Cup: SpVgg Unterhaching - Bayer Leverkusen

This is the duel between regional league bavaria team SpVgg Unterhaching and 1.Bundesliga team Bayer Leverkusen. On paper it should be a clear thing for the team from Bayer. Maybe some remember the game between Haching and Leverkusen when Leverkusen had the chance to win the title in Bundesliga but they lost there due to an own goal from Ballack and also the title. It was one of the biggest disaster for the club Leverkusen and of course they do not want to talk and remember on this day. Time has changed huge and with Unterhaching falling down to Regional League to hit rock bottom.

The team from Unterhaching is a very young team and they must sell always their top players due to financial problems. Therefore they can only count on young and unknown players. The situation is worse there after they were relegated in summer form 3.Bundesliga where they played for several years now. They have to build up a new team for the Regional League and to begin it was not very easy for them to find into the Season. They run behind huge but at the end they were close to the top but the form in the last 2-3 games were average and they lost some space again. In Cup they had two excellent days in beating Ingolstadt who plays 1.Bundesliga and RB Leipzig who plays 2.Bundesliga. But the last game against Leipzig was more a mistake form Rangnick who rested a lot of players and play with a B-Team there because he underestimates this team what was a big disaster for them. Of course the young team is always very hot against this big teams to show that they are able for more and maybe some players hopes to get a contact at a better club who has more budget. Nevertheless their last games was on 2.12.2015 against Bayern Munich Ama. 1-1 and since this game they have no real match praxis because their league is in winter break. Since 2 weeks they train only and maybe played some friendlies and they do not know where they stand at the moment what makes it much more difficult against a team who is in form and have a weekly rhythm.

Bayer Leverkusen has a lot to play for above after knock out form CL stage after playing only 1-1 against a Barcelona B-Team. This was the chance for them and you never get a better opportunity against such a team to win, but they failed. Some days later it was a real fireworks from them against high flying Gladbach who had not change and they overcome them with 5-0. Key player of this game was Kießling who scored twice and gave one assist. Normally Kies is only on bench as Coach Schmidt counts not on him and he maybe should be sold in winter break but after this performance they thing about it. He moved only into the starting lineup because Brandt was not ready for this game and this was exactly what Bayer Leverkusen has need after having a hard time. They are looking forward to this Cup game and coming to Haching with much better mood and self confidence. The team knows that they have to win this and they should not take this game to serious what the two games before from Unterhaching showed.

Overall this is a class to high for Unterhaching and they should lose this above all with the bad preparation without any matches and also the weak shape they had in the last league games. Leverkusen coming to them as absolute favorite and they should overcome them as they did in last Round also against an Regional League Team Viktoria Köln 6-0. We expect the same here, it may need some time but after Leverkusen open the scoring it is up to them how much. Above all in the end of the game we expect that Haching has some conditional problems what is another advantage for Leverkusen.

Arminia Bielefeld - FC St. Pauli

Both teams were already active in 1.Bundesliga and of course it is a dream to return sometimes. The team from Hamburg is very close to half time of the Season because they were third, with a win they can get back on this place. On the other side has Bielefeld managed the first home win for long time, since April exactly and they want more to climb up at the table and open the gap more to the last 3.

On of the key parts in Bielefeld's team is the defense, this part did a great job and conceded only 15 goals in 17 matches what is a good number above all as newcomer. In this category only Braunschweig has with 14 a better defensive. Normally this good stats is like a promotion candidate but they have one big negative thing and this is scoring goals. This is exactly what you need to get Points and this is to harmless from Bielefeld in all the 17 games so far. Maybe some changes in the future but at the moment they are running behind big. With only 15 goals scored they have one of the weakest offensive lines in the league, only bottom side 1860 had 14 before this Round.

Compared to the last game and the first home win Coach Meier does not change much. He counts on the same starting lineup which managed the win against KSC after coming from behind. Maybe Mast is out of the starting lineup due to weak performance in last game and Hemlein should replace him. He showed some good actions after he came in at half time against KSC.

Coach Lienen returns on his former working place, he was two times player from Arminia and also as Coach he worked there already. But he had not success as Coach and 2011 they were relegated. But for all the respect to his old club, he wants to win with St. Pauli and hold the pressure on the other teams above high. After playing long time against relegation last Season they have the change this Season to play for promotion. For this they need wins and this was not always the case lately.

It is no reason to changes anything on his starting lineup above all after winning 2-1 on "Betzenberg" which is a difficult place for every team. Normally you get hardly the Points there but the home strength form FCK is gone these days. He has almost all players available and therefore he can choose from a lot. 

Borussia Dortmund - Eintracht Frankfurt

Statistic:

- Dortmund won 40 of their 84 matches with Eintracht Frankfurt (40-16-28).
- Against no other BL team they have such a good record and so much wins.
- Dortmund won 4 of the last 5 duels, only 2014/15 0-2 away.
- At home is BvB very strong and lost only 1 of their last 19 BL games with Frankfurt (14-4-1).
- Frankfurt could not get a Point in the last 3 matches.
- Also they could win only 1 of the last 12 matches, 2-1 in Hannover (1-4-7).

The second Dortmund is playing a great Season so far and at home they are very hard to beat and with all their offensive power almost impossible to stop. In all their 6 home games they scored at least 3 goals or more and conceded only 1, only against Darmstadt 2-2 they lost Points. The only match they scored 3 and conceded 2 was against Schalke but the others are all high scoring victories. At home they are pushed from their excellent fans and if they can take the lead the match is in their way with all their fast players. The space is there and Reus and Aubameyang likes it to overcome the defensive, they are too fast for the most of them. In midfield they can have a small problem today with the injury absent Gündogan who was key in central midfield for them. Coach Tuchel must find an even replacement or changes a bit but with Castro or Micky they have players who can play beside youngster Weigl.

A lot of trouble in Frankfurt because Veh's Eintracht is totally out of form and he was very angry about the last defeat in derby to Darmstadt 0-1. They showed no real spirit in this game and waste with their less opportunities as well. He wants to see a different team today but if this is possible it is more as questionable. The problems are to huge to solve it in one week although the team has a special meeting and they spoke a lot. Also Veh was talking with his team and want to see a reaction. With what players he can bring Eintracht back on track is open. With Russ, Stendera and Zambrano they miss 3 players suspended today. Also Seferovic has problems after last trainings session and is a doubt here. They are very short of options in central back, with Abraham they have only one defender left with experience but he had problems as well in the past but can play. Beside him they field maybe an youngster with Kinsombi. Against such excellent players a problem but what should they do. The next problem is Reinartz who has some hamstring problems and it is not sure if he can start. Additional to all this problems is the harmless play from their offensive. Some of the players are not in the form they need and additional makes the wrong decisions in game. With scoring only 2 in the last 5 matches it shows that with such numbers you can not win matches. They conceded in all their road games, only to Hamburg 0-0 and Hoffenheim 0-0 not but against the power from Dortmund it is really impossible to keep a clean sheet.

1.FC Nürnberg - SC Freiburg

The second half of the Season began with Round 18 this Friday. If we take a look back to begin of the Season we saw an interesting an excellent macht between Freiburg and Nürnberg which Freiburg could win 6-3. It was a great match above all from Freiburg with all their offensive power they showed in this game but also Nürnberg had a lot of problems in defense to this time. Some month later they are almost even because Freiburg was always on top 3 while Nürnberg fight hard to close the gap and they are now really close to the top 3. With a win today they have 30 Points and Freiburg with 35 is only 5 Points ahead. Also the promotion race for Nürnberg can be open very bigly. The home factor can play a big role here too and Nürnberg is unbeaten in all their home starts but against Freiburg they had always some problems if 1.BL or 2.BL.

As mentioned above Nürnberg is in a region they want to be in table and they want more, of course. Coach Weiler has found the right mix and balance in team and his starting lineup. They lost only 1 time since September and this was a big unlucky 2-3 against Leipzig on the road. Also their good run of 3 wins in a row put them back in promotion race but they have to walk on otherwise they lose the contact immediately as the rival Braunschweig has won, the other rival St. Pauli plays on monday.
They want to build on their home fortress with 5-4-0 so far and for this reason Coach Weiler plans no changes and trust the team who could beat Paderborn 2-1 last weekend. And compared to the 3-6 defeat in Freiburg Nürnberg has only 4 players in starting lineup who played at that time there. So it is a different team with much more strength now.

Freiburg got the title "Herbstmeister" and they are on its way back to 1.Bundesliga immediately. Coach Streich and his crew has formed a really great team and they are working very well till now. The only team who could follow them was Freiburg, both are even on top with 35 Points but this match can be a really hard nut today. And just now they miss two important key players with former Nürnberger player Frantz injured and Abrashi suspended. This means they must find the right replacements. Their bench is not so deep that they can choose from a lot but in the past they always find the right solutions.
For Abrashi's place they have with Stanko and Hufnagel two players which can play this part. It may be a decision of Coach Streich who starts. But also some other setting are possible if defender Torrejon plays in central midfield while Hufnagel on the offensive wing for Frantz and in back move Mudjza into the starting lineup. All is possible.

Werder Bremen - 1.FC Köln

This encounter is a very important one for both sides. Above all for Bremen who is only one Point above the red zone what put them almost in a must win situation. Of course with a win they can bring Cologne in danger too because with 20 Points they are not far away from the drop zone. Despite the bad games and awful outcome both had recently they are looking forward for a better future. Both teams are not known as a scoring one and also that they can keep a clean sheet. There are always ways to break through what the last matches really shown.

It is a mess for Bremen above all in their own Stadium, they are not able to get much in front of their crowd. It was a big fortress after Skripnik took over last Season but this is gone this Season. They could not win one of the last 5 home games, no they lost all of these games what is a new negative record for them additional. With winning only 1 of the last 8 home games (last Season included) they have a lot to improve at home. Coach Skripnik has to find the right solution and system for his team to get them back on track and celebrate a win after a long time now. The situation in squad is not the best additional after key midfield player Junuzovic is out for the rest of the year with shoulder injury too. Also some others miss what brings Skripnik in danger to put up a strong starting lineup.

The downtrend from Cologne continues and they should try to stop the negative trend immediately. Coach Stöger is working on it and he looks for some solutions but with a bit of luck they should have won against Augsburg. The play was not such bad but they were not able to use one of their big opportunities. This would be very important to give the match a different way. Nevertheless if they find a way to score it should be possible to get a better outcome. Although they were not able to score much in the last games they are always exerted in their play. Above all they are able to create good opportunites and sooner or later they get rewarded again.

Although both teams are not known as high scoring teams it is a very interesting one and according to the stats it is not impossible to see some goals here. After Bremen has to suffer 5 defeats in a row at home we are really sure that they do not lose again. For a win they have to score some goals what should be possible against Cologne and as Augsburg showed they are vulnerable in defensive. On the other side they could not keep a clean sheet since 18 BL games against Cologne what means for a win they need 2 or more. Of course Cologne has not scored in 7 of their last 8 games but against a shaky defensive like Werder has it is possible to end this run. With Modeste and Zoller, also Osako and Hosiner they have some good offensive guys who can do the job this time.

1899 Hoffenheim - Hannover 96

Statistic:

- 1899 won the last 4 matches with Hannover. Against no other team they have such a run.

- With Hoffenheim (28) and Hannover (27) meet the two weakest BL-Teams 2015 each other.

The team form 1899 is on the bottom of the table and they can with a win overcome rival Stuttgart. This can be and should be motivation enough to get the first home win this Season. Above all against an opponent they love to play in recent years. If we take a look on the games at home from Hoffenheim they are not such bad at all in their own Stadium. They lost only to 3 opponents like Bayern, Bremen and Hamburg. But they had also good results like against Dortmund 1-1 or last game where they were very close to get the first home win against Gladbach but they could not hold a 3-1 lead and played only 3-3 in the end. Of course this match suffer a lot on them but the last match against Ingolstadt where they equalized in 96. minute to 1-1 should be boost them for the game against Hannover today. Coach Stevens should find the right balance between offensive and defensive and additional he can count on all his players. Therefore he can choose and find the best possible lineup for today.

Hannover is coming to Hoffenheim with some problems in bag according to their squad. They are also in trouble and not far away from drop zone what makes this match very important for them too. But with a lot of important players not available it is hard for Coach Frontzeck to find the right replacements and also the right tactic against bottom side 1899. With most important midfield player Kiyotake (9 matches / 3 goals) they miss their head in midfield, also with him they got 3 wins, 1 draw and 5 defeats while without him they are 1-1-4. The only win without him they got two weeks ago against newcomer Ingolstadt 4-0 at home. Their last match in Schalke was nothing, only in the end they got some pressure in their actions. Next important one is striker Sobiech (3 goals), Bech (1 goal) and Klaus (1 goal). This means that from their 18 scored goals are 10 already out. Above all Kiyotake and Sobiech are a big miss for them today as mentioned above. It is not the best situation for Coach Frontzeck in front of this important match.

Overall we expect that 1899 can take advantage of the problems form Hannover 96 and celebrate the first home win this time. We mentioned it above that they play not so bad at home but the result was not in their favor. This is the game where they are in a good position and they must use it.

FSV Mainz 05 - VfB Stuttgart

The team from Mainz had a very bad period before they start an unbeaten run since 5 matches where they collect 11 Points out of these matches. This put them in a much better situation as before and Coach Schmitt is very pleased with the play and form of his team. The defensive line is doing much better work as some weeks ago and in central midfield he has a lot to choose as all partners from key player Baumgartlinger did the job. If Frei (injured now), Latza (was suspended last game) or Jairo (played there last game against HSV and scored twice) all has his own style but all were very good and it is very open if he field Latza or Jairo on this position now. The offensive showed also some uptrend above all Malli is back after a long time without any good game, also Muto up front is doing better and better lately.

One of the biggest disappointing team of the Season coming from Stuttgart, VfB seems to be on a good way before the Season and the concept they had with new Coach Zorniger but he was not able to give this team more stability and compactness. Therefore he was sucked and interim Coach Kramny should bring VfB back on track but after two games on the sideline he got not much, only a draw to bottom side Bremen which was an important one. They said that this was the first step now in a better future but with only talking no team has avoid relegation so far. Despite the situation they are absolutely calm and try to do their job. It is an important game for VfB, almost a must win game and a special match for Kramny who plays against his former club. A Point should be to less if they do not want to fall down on the bottom, but it is up to 1899 if. The biggest problem is the shaky defensive with very young players who made a lot of mistakes, in midfield they are not compact enough and up front they are not as clinical as they should be to win matches. They miss an striker, a box player, who can help them. With Ginczek they have their best striker injured and youngster Werner did what he can but he is no real attacker. Also playmaker Didavi must be replaced too. No alternatives are there, so what should they do?

Very important match for both sides, Mainz can climb up until fifth place and overcome Wolfsburg until Saturday at least while Stuttgart has also a lot to play for, with a win they can overcome at least Bremen for one night. Inform Mainz has the much better situation with positive pressure while Stuttgart is in a must win situation and should stand under huge pressure. It is not sure if the young team can handle this. Additional has Mainz all their players ready while Stuttgart has some missing in squad. Nevertheless we expect a very exciting game and in all of their last matches were goals, they produce an average from 3,30 in 10 matches and an average from 4,50 in all the 6 OVER games. We believe that both have a lot to play for and the first goal open the game for more.

VfL Bochum - SC Paderborn

In today’s West-Derby meet two teams each other which are the weakest in the last 5 Rounds. With VfL Bochum winless since 7 matches and Paderborn since 6 could only Heidenheim collect less Points in this period. For this reason it is not expected that this will be a festival of good football, it should be hard work and fight too. Both want to end their run and in this case a close match should be ahead.

At the moment Coach Verbeek can work without any fear that he lose his job but according to the long winless streak he should try to win this match otherwise the situation can turn against him immediately. Nevertheless all in club are very pleased with the work from him so far and want continue to work with him but only results count in this business. The last win was on Round 10 with 5-0 against Fürth and since then it was only a huge downtrend from Bochum.

One of the biggest problems additional in club is the intern suspension from keeper Luthe who has a very good relationship with the fans. Also for this reason Coach Verbeek needs results otherwise the arguments for him are less also from fan side. For him Riemann who came from Sandhausen stands in goal for the last three matches this year. In central back they have to change too because captain Fabian is suspended today, his replacement can be Cacutalua. He has not start since 7 games but he gets the trust today. Back in the starting lineup should be top striker Terodde who was on bench last game for special reasons from Coach.

After having a good start under follower Coach Effenberg they are running behind their expectations. In all their last 6 games they have not much success and looking for a win but failed always. After first half of the Season they got only 16 Points and stands on 16. Place. They had a lot of expectations on Effenberg but he could not deliver so far. Only one Season they had less Points (12 in Season 07/08) as now and at the end they were relegated.

The situation in very serious and Coach Effenberg has to find some solutions now to bring his team on the right track and lead them into a better future. Some changes are possible but as always Effenberg made a real secret for the lineup. In defensive Heinloth can get a break and Narey replace him there. Also up front had Proschwitz not the best game against Nürnberg what put maybe Lakic back into the starting lineup.

Fortuna Düsseldorf - Eintracht Braunschweig

This is the second match for interims Coach Hermann, he hosts with his Fortuna Eintracht Braunschweig this evening.
