Jahn Regensburg - Union Berlin

Jahn Regensburg to beat Union for the first time this season

TEAM NEWS

Jahn Regensburg's Oliver Hein and Sebastian Nachreiner are both out with a knee injury. However, coach Achim Beierlorzer can still choose from a good squad for this league encounter.

Union Berlin will once again be without the long-term injured Marc Torrejon, who has been joined by Felix Kroos on the sidelines.

MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

Jahn Regensburg were involved in a very entertaining 3-3 draw away to Bochum in their most recent league match, with Marc Lais, Sargis Adamyan and Hamadi Al Ghaddioui registering the goals for them. That result kept Achim Beierlorzer’s men in ninth position with a positive +3 goal difference. They are unbeaten in their last six league games with three wins and three straight draws, scoring 15 goals in the process and conceding seven goals. This is a league encounter the home side will want to win and the aforementioned high goal count should help them towards their fifth win of the season

No side in Germany’s second tier have drawn more than Union Berlin so far. Urs Fischer’s boys have already drawn a staggering seven times this term, winning four and losing none. Union Berlin are third in the table, trailing giants Hamburg and Cologne by two points. However, they have dropped points in their last three league outings, drawing all three, against Heidenheim 1-1, Paderborn 0-0 and Dresden 0-0. Only seven of their 19 points have arrived on the road where they have won just once, against rock-bottom Ingolstadt, and drawn four times.

Union Berlin have been hard to beat so far but they are not as strong on their travels. They will no doubt give Regensburg a good game, but I’m backing the hosts to get the job done.

SECOND PREDICTION: HILO – HIGH

All of Jahn Regensburg's four league wins have been high-scoring affairs, averaging 3.75 total goals. I expect goals to flow here too.

HEAD TO HEAD

Union Berlin have not lost a league encounter against Jahn Regensburg since 2004, winning four and drawing two since.
