After the national break the leagues are back in business and we can look ahead of a very busy weekend. First one would be the top match in 2.Bundesliga between Energie Cottbus and Union Berlin. This is the opportunity for Union to overcome both on top Colonge and Fürth with a draw and climb on top till Sunday. Of course Union travel to Cottbus to win there but it is not easy as with Cottbus they face a strong home side and their record is very bad with 4 defeats and only a goalless draw in 5 visits. These 5 matches are only 2.Bundesliga duels, if we consider all matches including east times they are winless since 21 years there. Nevertheless they want to win and improve their record there. Many hope for an entertaining game in this east clash.
Some problems for Coach Bommer as with Keeper Almer, MID Banovic and STR Sanogo faced three important players a final fitness test in last training session if they can be in the squad for today. The Austrian Keeper did not play in national team on Tuesday due to calf problem but he is likely in the starting lineup for the match vs. Union. MID Banovic made a three day break from training due to flue but according to his own statement he is ready for this match. A bit different is the return from top striker Sanogo. Of course he returned some weeks earlier as expected but if he is ready after his diagnosed broken toe is doubtful. He recovered only after 4 weeks and maybe he needs some time as Coach Bommer sit him on bench and if the match is in favor for them he will rest him for sure. However this is certainly not DEF Julian Börner which face an injury and can not take his position in the center back while Uwe Möhrle and Jurica Buljat starts there. If both Almer and Banovic can play, thus the same eleven is expected as in Munich where they got a goalless draw.
Union Coach Uwe Neuhaus, meanwhile has no reason to change his team compared to 3-0 against SV Sandhausen. A small question mark is still only behind Sören Brandy, who has some problems with a gastrointestinal infection under the international break and is possible not back at full strength. It is likely, however, that the best scorer with five goals of the “Eisernen” will be in the starting eleven. Likely to start in attack also Simon Terodde who is currently in better shape as Adam Nemec and with his last performances in a better position now. This duel in attack between both is only one place and maybe an example of the high quality in the squad from Union this season. On several positions, excellent alternatives so that no player may allow some period of weakness. Overall an solid team this year and they are more as able to compete with the top. They are known for their home strength from former years but this season they started winning away from home too what put them in such a good position.
