Against teams from the bottom half of the table, St. Pauli had a hard time this season on home soil. From three home games against teams from this region like Bielefeld, Düsseldorf and Paderborn they managed only to get one Point. Well, with SV Sandhausen for the fourth time this season a team from this table region arrive in Hamburg. Once again St. Pauli has the chance with a win to climb up to promotion ranks as they had in all the three mentioned games but they failed always. According to there matches they hope that they have the experience from previous games now, however, the certain skepticism is still there from the players. All said that it would be a hard match and it is also not very eady to create chances against an defensive minded team from Sandhausen. Defender Thorandt especially warns not to run in some counter as they did in the mentioned games. They should control it from a more decent and safer manner. However, a victory of St. Pauli put them in the upper table positions and it would be the first time this season that they win two matches in a row.
Head Coach Michael Frontzeck is nevertheless optimistic and hopes in particular that his team can take the momentum and confidence of the 4-2 win in Fürth in today’s game. We want to play the same style what we have recently played away even at home. Squad would probably the same and not many changes expected, maybe a little bit. The injury problems indeed have changed a bit in recent days but not all. Some of the player returns but not all are ready for today. Bernd Nehrig and Sebastian Maier had not trained to beginning of the week or only reduced due to muscular problems, but returned on Wednesday to full team training. At least for Nehrig it is to early and he will get some rest additional. Attacker Verhoek was already out against Fürth and was not able to train this week again what is very likely that he is not in the squad today again. The others Boll, Daube and Okan are out longer anyway.
Despite table position 15 and only two Points ahead of the relegation ranks guest Coach Alois Schwartz sees his team not in a must win situation here. He said already that they have nothing to lose in Hamburg and want to be a tough opponent. For this reason, he wants to take the opportunity and try out some new with his formation today. On what changes he thinks, he had certainly let open. Maybe the fit again David Ulm who last could not play from the start due to an infection can be in starting lineup, but also players from the second row would offer currently to let the Coach thinking about them. Expect from Nico Klotz who must remain sidelined because of back problems and the long term injured Zimmermann are all players available. Therefore Coach Schwartz has many options for his announced formation tries
